The Spirit of the Wild

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is part of the larger Virunga Conservation Area, straddling the borders of Uganda, Rwanda, and the DRC. Though it covers only 33.7 $km^2$, its impact is massive. It protects the Ugandan slopes of three dormant volcanoes: Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabinyo. This park is the only place in Uganda where you can track both the Mountain Gorilla and the Golden Monkey. Beyond wildlife, it offers a deep cultural journey through the Batwa Trail, where the forest’s first people share ancient survival secrets and sacred traditions.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Inspired by traditional Bufimbira design, Mount Gahinga Lodge is an intimate collection of hand-built stone bandas with papyrus roofs. Each banda is named after one of the Virunga volcanoes. The lodge is renowned for its "re-imagined" luxury, featuring a cozy central fireplace, a sunroom with volcano views, and a strong partnership with the local Batwa community through the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust.
