The Experience

Inspired by traditional Bufimbira design, Mount Gahinga Lodge is an intimate collection of hand-built stone bandas with papyrus roofs. Each banda is named after one of the Virunga volcanoes. The lodge is renowned for its "re-imagined" luxury, featuring a cozy central fireplace, a sunroom with volcano views, and a strong partnership with the local Batwa community through the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust.

How do I get to the lodge?

You can take a 1-hour flight from Entebbe to Kisoro Airstrip, followed by a 40-minute drive, or drive 5 hours from Kigali, Rwanda.

Is gorilla tracking available from here?

Yes, this is the only lodge with direct walking access to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park headquarters.

Can I climb the volcanoes?

Absolutely. Guided hikes to Mount Sabinyo, Gahinga, and Muhavura can be arranged directly from the lodge.

What is the Batwa experience?

Guests can visit the permanent Batwa village and vocational center established by the lodge to support the local community.
