9-Day Luxury Safari & Zanzibar Escape9 Days • Ultra Luxury
The ultimate Tanzania experience: three extraordinary nights on safari through Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti — witnessing Africa's most spectacular wildlife — followed by three days of pure paradise on the white-sand beaches and spice-scented shores of Zanzibar. Safari thrills meet island serenity in this perfect luxury journey.
The Safari Experience
A meticulously planned adventure through the heart of the wild.
The 9-Day Luxury Safari &
Zanzibar Escape is Tanzania's definitive dual-experience journey — combining
the raw, breathtaking excitement of a world-class safari with the romantic
tranquility of a luxury island retreat. The adventure begins in Arusha at the
iconic Arusha Coffee Lodge, before sweeping through Tarangire National Park's
ancient baobab landscapes and elephant kingdoms, the remarkable Ngorongoro
Crater with its extraordinary density of resident Big Five wildlife, and the
legendary Serengeti — where the Great Migration unfolds and the world's most
diverse predator population roams. At the safari's peak, guests board a flight
directly from the Serengeti airstrip to Zanzibar, the Indian Ocean's most
enchanting island. Three days of Zanzibar life — exploring the UNESCO-listed
Stone Town, visiting fragrant spice plantations, swimming in turquoise waters,
and relaxing in a luxury beachfront resort — provide the perfect counterpoint
to the safari's energy. This nine-day journey offers the complete Tanzania
experience: wild, cultural, and utterly indulgent.

Tarangire National Park – Baobabs, Elephants & First Game Drive
After breakfast at the Coffee Lodge, your safari launches toward Tarangire National Park — one of East Africa's most spectacular and underappreciated wildlife destinations. The park's defining landscape of towering ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, creates a prehistoric atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Africa. The Tarangire River draws massive elephant herds during the dry season, sometimes numbering in the hundreds — providing Africa's finest elephant-watching experiences. Sundowners at a scenic viewpoint as the sun sets over the savannah mark the end of a first extraordinary day. Settle into your luxury lodge in the escarpment above the rift valley, reliving the day's highlights over dinner.

Ngorongoro Crater – Full Day in Africa's Greatest Wildlife Arena
Today delivers one of Africa's most iconic wildlife experiences: a full day inside the extraordinary Ngorongoro Crater. Descending the ancient 600-metre crater walls at dawn, you enter a self-contained world that harbors over 25,000 resident animals within 260 square kilometres. The rare black rhinoceros grazes on open grassland, enormous tusked bull elephants lumber through the Lerai Forest, and lion prides patrol their ancient territories while cubs play in the morning light. The alkaline lake shimmers with thousands of flamingos, and golden eagles circle overhead. A spectacular bush picnic lunch near the hippo pool completes the experience before your evening transfer to the Serengeti for your luxury overnight lodge.

Serengeti National Park – Endless Plains & Iconic Wildlife
The iconic Serengeti National Park — the world's most celebrated wildlife sanctuary — unfolds before you in all its magnificent scale. The endless golden plains teem with life: wildebeest herds numbering in the thousands, zebra stripes flickering in the morning heat, and the apex predators — lion, leopard, and cheetah — that make this ecosystem the most predator-rich on Earth. An afternoon game drive explores different habitats as you trace the seasonal movements of the Great Migration. Settle into the spectacular Four Seasons Safari Lodge — one of the most luxurious safari accommodations in Africa — for dinner, a private plunge pool sunset, and cocktails under a sky blazing with stars.

Serengeti – Great Migration Focus & Optional Balloon Safari
Today's game drives are specifically tailored to the seasonal movements of the Great Migration — one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Depending on the time of year, you may witness the extraordinary river crossings of July to October, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeest plunge into crocodile-filled rivers, or the calving season of January to February, when thousands of wildebeest calves are born each day on the southern plains. An optional pre-dawn hot air balloon safari offers a breathtaking bird's-eye perspective followed by a champagne bush breakfast. Evenings in the Serengeti are magical — fireside storytelling under the Milky Way, with the sounds of the African night all around you.

Stone Town & Spice Tour – Zanzibar's Cultural Soul
Zanzibar is far more than beautiful beaches — it is a living museum of Swahili culture, Arab architecture, and colonial history. Today's guided walking tour of Stone Town reveals the island's extraordinary heritage through its labyrinthine alleys, ornate carved doorways, historic mosques, bustling Darajani Market, and the poignant memory of its slave trade history. The afternoon takes you to a working spice plantation — Zanzibar's most famous agricultural heritage — where you'll discover cloves, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and black pepper growing in lush groves. A private guided tasting of fresh spices and tropical fruits completes the sensory experience before returning to your resort for a romantic sunset dinner by the sea.

Your penultimate day in Zanzibar is entirely yours to shape. Adventurous spirits will find heaven beneath the waves at Mnemba Atoll — Zanzibar's most pristine marine reserve, where technicolour coral gardens and hawksbill turtles await. A traditional hand-carved dhow sailing excursion offers a timeless connection to Zanzibar's seafaring heritage. Those seeking pure relaxation will find complete contentment on the resort's powdery beach, perhaps with a private yoga session on the sand, an indulgent spa treatment, or simply watching local fishermen haul their catches as the sun arcs across the sky. +255 787 MAASAI-1Essential Safari FAQ
What is the best sequence — safari first or Zanzibar first?
Safari first is strongly recommended and is the sequence used in this itinerary. Experiencing the wildlife excitement before the beach relaxation creates the perfect emotional arc — the Zanzibar days feel like a deeply earned reward after the safari's intensity. It's also logistically optimal, as flights from the Serengeti to Zanzibar are well-established.
Is Zanzibar suitable for snorkeling and diving?
Zanzibar offers some of the Indian Ocean's finest snorkeling and diving. Mnemba Atoll is a protected marine reserve with exceptional coral reefs, turtles, dolphins, and over 300 fish species. Beginner and experienced divers are both well catered for with multiple dive centres available.
What is the best time to combine this safari and Zanzibar?
June to October is the optimal period — Tanzania's dry season delivers excellent game viewing and Zanzibar enjoys warm, dry beach weather. January to February is also excellent for both the Serengeti calving season and Zanzibar's short dry period. We advise against the March–May long rains period.
Is Stone Town safe to explore?
Stone Town is a vibrant and generally safe tourist destination. Guided tours are recommended for the best experience, as the town's maze-like alleys and historic sites require local knowledge to fully appreciate. Our guided tour is included in the itinerary.
Can we arrange a private Zanzibar beach dinner?
Absolutely. The Mora and most of our partner Zanzibar resorts can arrange romantic private beach dinners, candlelit sundowner setups, and intimate in-villa dining experiences. These can be pre-arranged at the time of booking for anniversaries, honeymoons, or special celebrations.
