Essential FAQ

The rare tree-climbing lions found in the Ishasha sector.
Yes. Chimpanzee trekking takes place in the Kyambura Gorge, also known as the "Valley of Apes." This is a dramatic 100-meter deep "underground" tropical forest carved into the savannah. It offers a unique trekking experience compared to the flat forests of Kibale, though the terrain is steeper.
The park was originally founded as Kazinga National Park in 1952. It was renamed in 1954 to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth II. You can still see a monument marking the spot where she stood to view the park's vast landscapes.
Yes, Queen Elizabeth is one of the most accessible parks for self-drive. However, a 4x4 vehicle is mandatory, especially if you plan to visit the Ishasha sector or the crater drive, as roads can become muddy and slippery during the rains. Using a local guide is still recommended to help spot well-camouflaged leopards and lions.
