The Destination

The Spirit of the Wild

Pololeti Game Reserve is one of Tanzania's newest and most exciting community-managed wildlife conservancies, situated on the southwestern slopes of Mount Meru in the Arusha Region. Covering over 1,000 hectares of diverse habitat — including montane grassland, acacia woodland, and riverine forest — Pololeti offers an intimate, uncrowded safari experience that feels genuinely wild and unspoilt.

Established in partnership with local Maasai communities, Pololeti is a model of community-based conservation, where revenue from tourism directly supports Maasai livelihoods and wildlife protection. The reserve provides a vital wildlife corridor connecting Arusha National Park and the broader ecosystem of the Maasai Steppe.

Unlike mainstream reserves, Pololeti specialises in walking safaris, night game drives, and cultural immersion. There are no mass-market lodges — only small, atmospheric bush camps designed to minimise environmental impact. Birdwatching is exceptional, with over 350 recorded species, and the reserve is home to impressive concentrations of plains game, predators, and rare species seldom encountered in better-known parks.

Essential FAQ

Pololeti is a private wildlife conservancy located on the western border of Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania. It sits within the broader Serengeti ecosystem, ensuring year-round wildlife presence and Great Migration access during peak season.
Most guests fly into the Serengeti via scheduled or charter flights from Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport to nearby Serengeti airstrips. From the airstrip, a short game drive transfers guests directly to the conservancy. Travel time from Arusha by road is approximately 8–9 hours.
Pololeti can be visited year-round, but the best time depends on your priorities. The Great Migration passes through during July–October. The calving season (January–February) in nearby Ndutu is also spectacular. The dry season (June–October) offers the best general game viewing with excellent visibility and passable roads
Pololeti is a private conservancy, meaning it allows activities not permitted in the national park, including night game drives, walking safaris, and off-road driving. The low guest density ensures a more exclusive and personalized experience compared to the busier circuits within the park.
Visitors can expect a wide range of wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, crocodile, and numerous antelope species. The conservancy is also home to over 500 bird species, making it excellent for birdwatchers.
Yes, Pololeti is family-friendly. Children of all ages are welcome on game drives. Walking safaris may have minimum age restrictions depending on the camp's policy. It is advisable to check with your operator regarding specific age requirements.
Pololeti offers luxury tented camps that blend seamlessly into the natural landscape. Accommodation is designed to provide comfort and style while maintaining a genuine wilderness atmosphere. Options range from standard suites to family tents.
Most nationalities require a visa to enter Tanzania. Visas can be obtained in advance online through the Tanzania e-Visa portal or on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and Julius Nyerere International Airport. It is recommended to apply in advance to avoid delays.
