The Spirit of the Wild
Pololeti Game Reserve is one of
Tanzania's newest and most exciting community-managed wildlife conservancies,
situated on the southwestern slopes of Mount Meru in the Arusha Region.
Covering over 1,000 hectares of diverse habitat — including montane grassland,
acacia woodland, and riverine forest — Pololeti offers an intimate, uncrowded
safari experience that feels genuinely wild and unspoilt.
Established in partnership with
local Maasai communities, Pololeti is a model of community-based conservation,
where revenue from tourism directly supports Maasai livelihoods and wildlife
protection. The reserve provides a vital wildlife corridor connecting Arusha
National Park and the broader ecosystem of the Maasai Steppe.
Unlike mainstream reserves,
Pololeti specialises in walking safaris, night game drives, and cultural
immersion. There are no mass-market lodges — only small, atmospheric bush camps
designed to minimise environmental impact. Birdwatching is exceptional, with
over 350 recorded species, and the reserve is home to impressive concentrations
of plains game, predators, and rare species seldom encountered in better-known
parks.
