The Destination

The Spirit of the Wild

Augrabies Falls National Park is home to one of the world's great waterfalls — the Augrabies Falls, where the Orange River narrows to a 90-metre wide channel before plunging 56 metres into a spectacular 18-kilometre-long granite gorge. The park covers 820 km² of arid Northern Cape landscape, where quiver trees punctuate red rock terrain and klipspringers leap between granite outcrops. The Khoikhoi name 'Augrabies' means 'place of great noise' — and the falls live up entirely to that description, particularly impressive after summer rains when the Orange River floods. A remote and dramatic destination offering excellent small-mammal sightings, expert hiking, and extraordinary geological scenery.
