Common Enquiries

What makes Wilderness Bisate different from other gorilla lodges in Rwanda?

Wilderness Bisate stands apart through its extraordinary setting inside an eroded volcanic crater, its award-winning conservation impact (Bisate Reforestation Project), its intimate six-villa design, and Wilderness Safaris' globally recognised guiding standards. It consistently ranks among the top safari lodges in Africa.

How far is Wilderness Bisate from Volcanoes National Park?

Wilderness Bisate is situated directly adjacent to Volcanoes National Park, making it one of the most conveniently located lodges for gorilla trekking in the entire region. Transfer time to the park's Kinigi gate is approximately 5 minutes.

Are gorilla trekking permits included in the lodge rate?

No. Gorilla trekking permits (USD 1,500 per person per trek) are issued and managed by Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and are not included in lodge accommodation rates. Wilderness Bisate's team or Maasai Guides DMC can assist in securing permits

What level of fitness is required for gorilla trekking at Bisate?

Gorilla trekking can range from 1–6 hours through steep, densely forested terrain at altitudes of 2,300–3,000m. A moderate to good level of physical fitness is recommended. Porters are available at the park gate to assist guests with equipment and provide support on the trail.

Is Wilderness Bisate suitable for a honeymoon?

Absolutely. Wilderness Bisate is one of Africa's premier honeymoon destinations, offering supreme privacy, breathtaking scenery, world-class dining, and the once-in-a-lifetime experience of gorilla trekking. The lodge can arrange special honeymoon touches including private dinners, couple's spa treatments, and champagne stargazing evenings.

How does Wilderness Bisate contribute to the local community and environment?

The lodge's Bisate Reforestation Project has restored over 150,000 indigenous trees to previously degraded land surrounding the volcanic crater, expanding habitat connectivity to Volcanoes National Park. The lodge also employs predominantly local staff from Bisate Village, supports community schools, and funds healthcare initiatives in the surrounding area.
