Common Enquiries
Where is Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge located?
The lodge is situated in the remote Western Corridor of Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, on the banks of a tributary of the Grumeti River. Its secluded location means very few other vehicles or tourists in the area, offering a truly exclusive safari experience.
How many rooms does the lodge have?
The lodge has 10 luxuriously appointed tented suites, including one dedicated family suite. The small size of the property ensures an intimate atmosphere with highly personalised service for every guest.
When is the best time to visit Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge?
The lodge offers excellent game viewing year-round thanks to its resident wildlife populations. However, June and July are particularly spectacular as the Great Migration passes through the Western Corridor, with dramatic river crossings as wildebeest and zebras brave enormous Nile crocodiles in the Grumeti River.
What wildlife can I expect to see?
Guests regularly encounter all of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), cheetah, spotted hyena, hippo, Nile crocodile, and 35 species of plains game. The lodge is also the only place in the Serengeti where the rare black-and-white colobus monkey is found. Over 500 bird species have been recorded in the wider ecosystem.
What activities are available at the lodge?
Activities include twice-daily game drives in open 4WD vehicles, guided bush walks, hot air balloon safaris (seasonal), birdwatching, stargazing, cultural community visits, guided nature walks, and in-room African wellness treatments. The lodge also offers an infinity pool, a gym, an interactive kitchen experience, and traditional boma dinners.
How do I get to Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge?
The easiest way to reach the lodge is by light aircraft. Daily scheduled flights operate from Arusha (Kilimanjaro International Airport) to the Grumeti Airstrip, which is just 500 metres from the lodge entrance. The total transfer time from Arusha is approximately 60–90 minutes, making it one of the most accessible remote lodges in the Serengeti.
Is Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge suitable for families?
Yes. The lodge offers a dedicated family suite and is well suited to families with children of all ages. Game drives are conducted in private vehicles for exclusive use, and guides tailor the experience to suit younger guests. The intimate atmosphere of the 10-suite property also ensures families receive highly attentive, personalised service.
What are the accommodation highlights?
Each suite features a king-sized bed, floor-to-ceiling windows, a private veranda overlooking the river, a plunge pool, an en suite bathroom with free-standing bathtub and indoor shower, overhead fans, and Wi-Fi. Suites are widely spaced for maximum privacy and decorated with colourful Kitenge fabrics, patterned ceilings, and locally-inspired art.
Is the lodge eco-friendly?
Absolutely. The lodge runs on 80% solar-generated energy and implements extensive sustainability measures including wastewater recycling, low-flow shower heads, an on-site water bottling plant, elimination of single-use plastics, and the use of natural, lightweight building materials. &Beyond also actively supports local community development and wildlife conservation initiatives in the region.
What meals and dining experiences are offered?
The lodge serves all meals in a variety of settings — from the main terrace and dining room to traditional boma campfire dinners and private bush breakfasts. The cuisine celebrates pan-African flavours, with freshly baked breads, artisanal pizzas, whole salt-crusted fish, and seasonal dishes. An interactive kitchen allows guests to plan menus with the chef. All meals, premium drinks, and selected activities are typically included in the all-inclusive rate.
