The Experience

Originally established in 1992 by safari pioneer Paul Oliver, this camp is widely considered the "gold standard" for authentic guiding in Tarangire. The camp is split into two wings (the main camp and a private 5-tent "Little Oliver's") to ensure intimacy. Its aesthetic is "safari of yesteryear," featuring heavy wood furniture, leather armchairs, and a world-class library of natural history. It is particularly famous for its resident elephant herds and expert-led walking safaris.

What is "Fly Camping"?

For the truly adventurous, you can walk out from the main camp to spend a night in a lightweight satellite camp. You sleep under a mosquito net under the stars with a private chef and guide—the ultimate "raw" safari experience.

Is it safe to shower outside?

Yes! The outdoor showers are surrounded by high reed walls for privacy. They are one of the most popular features of the camp, allowing you to shower while listening to the sounds of the bush.

When is the best time for elephants?

The dry season (July to October) is spectacular. As water elsewhere dries up, massive herds of elephants congregate in the Silale Swamps right in front of the camp.

Are children allowed?

The camp welcomes children aged 5 and older. However, please note that children under 16 are not permitted on walking safaris due to park regulations.
